DSD 256
The Analog Tone Factory catalog is now in DSD!
Immerse yourself in a curated collection of modern jazz at its most authentic and emotionally resonant. This exclusive bundle brings together four critically acclaimed albums by some of today’s most respected artists, captured in pristine DSD 256 resolution for an unparalleled digital listening experience. Discover the burgeoning catalog of Analog Tone Factory for the first time in DSD 256, and experience music by Chris Cheek, Bill Frisell, Jerome Sabbagh, Kenny Barron, Al Foster etc. with these four albums, acclaimed for the quality of the music and the sonics alike.
The analog to digital transfer for our DSD 256 downloads is made directly from the master tape by Jason Smith at Grey Matter Audio. We are using a Sony APR-5002 as a transport to play back the half-inch 30 ips master tape, but the sound is going through a Doshi Audio tube tape preamp instead of the stock electronics, and then to the Playback Designs converter. The capture is done directly in DSD 256 and the files are not converted to another format, so as to keep the high resolution of the signal. This is why we only offer DSD 256 and not other resolutions of DSD.

Album Overview:
Chris Cheek – Keepers of the Eastern Door
A hauntingly beautiful recording that feels both timeless and immediate, Keepers of the Eastern Door finds saxophonist Chris Cheek at his most contemplative. Anchored by legendary guitarist Bill Frisell in a sideman turn of exquisite taste, bassist Tony Scherr, and drummer Rudy Royston, the ensemble creates spacious, atmospheric soundscapes that blend folk-like melodies with modern jazz sensibilities. "Poised between chill out and spine-chilling, this album is a late-night delight” according to The London Times. We agree!
Jerome Sabbagh – Heart
Joined by master bassist Joe Martin and legendary drummer Al Foster in one of his last recorded appearances, Jerome Sabbagh delivers a deeply personal trio album that balances lyrical beauty with rhythmic drive. Heart is the inaugural release on Analog Tone Factory, receiving 4 stars in DownBeat. Michael Fremer gave it a rare 11/11 review for music and sound, writing "How good is the sound? I don't think you own a record that sounds better than this."
Jerome Sabbagh – Vintage
Featuring the iconic Kenny Barron on piano, alongside Joe Martin and Johnathan Blake, Vintage mixes compositions by Sabbagh and standards, including three duet tunes with Kenny Barron. Vintage was the winner of the 2024 ARYA Award for Audiophile Recording of the Year and got rave reviews internationally.
Jerome Sabbagh & Greg Tuohey – No Filter
Twenty years after their first recording together, longtime musical collaborators Jerome Sabbagh and Greg Tuohey (Little Big) reunited to record No Filter, an album that features their original compositions. Together with Joe Martin and Kush Abadey, they explore their unique rapport through different moods and grooves in this 2018 recording. Raw, direct, and refreshingly unpretentious, No Filter is exactly what its title promises. Now sold out on vinyl, this is a chance to hear this music in DSD 256!
